French Horn Chop-monster: Level 1

Chop-Monster is a sequential jazz improvisation method created by the renowned jazz pianist and educator Shelly Berg. This method employs a ""call-and-response"" approach, where students listen to a jazz idea, repeat it until they have fully grasped it, and then attempt to apply it on their own.

In Chop-Monster 1, students will be introduced to and practice improvisation with the Ima7, iimi7, and V7 chords in the key of B-flat, as well as a basic blues progression. As they progress to Chop-Monster 2, students will further develop their skills by improvising to the ii-V-I progression in three different keys: concert B-flat, E-flat, and F.

Throughout the Chop-Monster method, students are encouraged to actively engage with the music, internalize the concepts, and ultimately express themselves through their own improvisational techniques.
