Blazhevich: 70 Tuba Studies – Vol. I

70 Studies for B flat Tuba - Volume 1 by Vladislav Blazhevich, edited by Robert King and published by Alphonse Leduc, is comprised of the first 42 out of a total of 70 studies. These studies are not intended as a method specifically for tuba players. It is widely recognized that Blazhevich drew inspiration from his earlier work, Clef Studies for Trombone, when creating the 70 Studies, although 13 of the studies in this collection were not included in the original trombone piece. Instead of simply transposing the trombone studies for tuba, Blazhevich adapted them specifically for this instrument.

The 70 Studies have since become an integral part of tuba instruction, and are among the most recommended study materials for tuba players, enjoying widespread popularity. These studies are valuable for developing tuba techniques and can be utilized by players of various ages and skill levels.

Vladislav Blazhevich (1881-1942) was a prominent Russian tuba player, conductor, and music professor. He was also a prolific composer, known for his contributions to wind instrument pedagogy, including concertos, studies, and other musical works.

Robert King (1914-1999) was an American editor specializing in brass music. In the 1950s, he authored the Brass Player's Guide and established a close partnership with Alphonse Leduc Editions.
